Goroka is the city in Papua New Guinea that John Bear visited. There are many things about the city which look strange at first. The highway to the coast is the only paved road and it is one lane going each direction. There are many pot holes, and one-lane bridges so people have to drive on the wrong side of the road sometimes.

This is a picture of the square in the middle of the city.

The market is also in the park. There is a grocery store for milk and meat and canned items, but handmade things are sold in the park. The brightly collored string bags are billums and they are used to carry things. The men are selling bows and arrows, masks, and pig tusk necklaces.
