John Bear visits two caves. They are very different from each other.

The first is an active limestone cave. The entrance is very large as you can see from the picture on the left. The entrance forms a grotto for dangling ferns to grow.

The trail to the cave goes under jungle ferns and rope-like plants that grow very fast.

John Bear wears a headlamp in the cave so that he can see. There are no lights inside, and it would be very dark without the light.

Stalactites grow from the ceiling when the water deposits calcium very slowly over time. The walls of the cave are soft and gooey.

The second cave was cut through a limestone rock layer by a river. There were no stalactites. The trail in this cave was up the river bed. This is the entrance... looking in and looking out.

The river is a few feet deep and has carved the rock into beautiful shapes. It looks like sculpture. Rocks roll around and and carve beautifully shaped holes.
